With no experience necessary, An all-inclusive day-trip to Catalina to do a mermaid photo-shoot with an experienced underwater videographer. Included is:
- Round Trip Catalina Express
- Mermaid Film-Shoot in the Ocean & PADI Mermaid Certification.
- a USB with all of your videos taken that day, and one professionally edited short-film.
- Lunch at a local favorite restaurant.
- Celebratory Beverage at a local favorite hang-out to look at your footage and download.
This full-day experience begins by getting on the Catalina Express and heading to the commodore lounge, where you will have a complimentary snack and beverage. Once in Avalon, your Mermaid Instructor will meet you at the dock.
Your instructor will walk you over to Middle Beach where you will sit on the sand and go over some basic free-diving techniques that relate to mermaiding. You will be introduced to the equipment, learn breath-hold techniques, and more.
After this short learning session, you will get in the water to try swimming in a mermaid tail for the first time. Your instructor will teach you different swimming techniques and teach you flips, turns, and bubble tricks that you can apply to your film-shoot to enhance your videos. Your instructor will also perfect your technique until you have mastered a graceful, beautiful dolphin kick for your film-shoot.
It is important to warm up, rest, and re-energize before entering the water for filming. We will enjoy lunch at a local favorite restaurant before taking a short walk to Casino Point Dive Park.
You will get in the water there to get videos of you swimming through the clear waters, through the kelp forest, and with the fish! There is no limit to how many videos you can take, but the recommended session time is 45 minutes to one hour for comfort and warmth!
After your film shoot you will have warm water to rinse off with, then will change into dry clothes before heading to a local favorite spot for a beverage and to look at your videos! After your underwater videographer downloads the videos, you will be given a USB drive with all of your videos to take home with you.
Your instructor will walk with you back to the Catalina Express where you will say your goodbyes and head back up to the Commodore Lounge for another complimentary snack and beverage on your way home.
After you head home, our editing team will create a short film about your experience with us to give you, and share on social media to memorialize your experience. This can take up to 72 hours to create, post, and send to you. You will also receive a certification email from PADI congratulating you, and giving you your eCard as a certified PADI Mermaid.

What should I bring?
For your day with us we recommend bringing a towel, sunscreen, bathing suit or legging & rash guard combo to wear in the water, warm and dry clothes to change into after your time in the water, any make up or accessories you would like to wear (please keep it eco-friendly ex: no glitter or things that will fall off in the water), a re-useable water bottle, sunglasses, hat and a jacket. Be prepared for both hot or cold weather, the island can be both in the same day.

What will I learn in a PADI Mermaid Class?
The PADI Mermaid Class is broken up into two sections, knowledge development & confined water sessions.
- Knowledge development through independent study with the PADI Mermaid eLearning (or your instructor may conduct class sessions if not available in your language).
- Two confined water sessions to learn and prepare for mermaiding, rescue/problem management skills and the conduct of mermaid dives. You also learn mermaid skills, such as dolphin (butterfly) kicks, C-shape and U-shape side turns, and some skills distinct to mermaid diving, including backward somersault turn, underwater handshaking mermaid bubbles, and back glides.
Who is this experience for?
This experience is catered to teens and adults who want to get beautiful videos in the kelp forests as a mermaid. Kids younger than 10 are likely better suited for our Discover Mermaid Kid-Focused Fun. You need to be able to swim at least 50m/160ft without swim aids, able to float comfortably at the surface for at least 5 mins and in good physical health. As an entry-level mermaid diving course, no prior experience with diving of any kind is required.
